Dear Melanie, I decided to weigh myself today, and it turns out I lost about three pounds since mid April! I’m now at the lowest I’ve been in the last three years. I was shocked and didn’t believe the scale so I weighed myself on another scale and it was the same. I just wanted to say thank you for all of your nutritional guidance. It’s the first time in my life that I’m losing weight in a healthy, consistent way that doesn’t leave me feeling hungry. Also, I feel in control of my eating the majority of the time and so I’m not reaching for food to emotionally self-soothe on a daily basis. So thank you very much for all your help and support. I really appreciate it.
Dear Melanie, I just wanted to let you know that the GI issues have gone away! I have become much more regular and without the uncomfortable feelings i had every day! I am not sure if it is the change in diet or the supplements or both. But whatever it is it is working. I recently started reintegrating some food into my diet that previously were making me uncomfortable. Now it isnt a problem. Thanks for your help!
Dear Melanie, I was scheduled for surgery but decided to try working with you first because I felt strongly that diet is a factor in my health. For six weeks, I stayed away from many foods that you suggested might be increasing inflammation and causing my condition. Within two weeks the cysts and swollen nodes were gone!! And you were right about the goat cheese – it doesn’t affect my stomach the way cows milk cheese does. I do occasionally cheat with dark chocolate (70-85% cacao as you suggested). Again many thanks for putting me on the right path.
Melanie is extremely knowledgeable. Working with Melanie, I have learned that nutrition is not just about calories but nutrition involves learning how to eat to fuel my body and to support my lifestyle. Melanie doesn’t simply tell me what to eat but helps me figure out what works best for me. I really appreciate Melanie’s flexibility in working with me to schedule appointments around my hectic schedule. If you are looking for a nutritionist, go see Melanie.
What I appreciate most about Melanie’s philosophy is that she integrates the emotional-social aspects of food with the nutrition since, for me, those are very much intertwined. She’s upfront about the fact that this is a lifestyle change, not a quick fix, but she’s compassionate and supportive at every step of the way. Her non-judgmental approach made me feel comfortable to be myself in our sessions and dig deep to uncover what was holding me back from being successful. Melanie also encouraged me to start running – something I had avoided since high school – and she was one of the first people I contacted after I completed my first half-marathon a year later! Although I have since moved away, I am grateful for all that I learned during our time together and still check in with her periodically. She empowered me to change my life!
Melanie Sherman is a rare combination: not only is she knowledgeable and up to date, her ability to understand and connect to a variety of people, from skittish to committed is remarkable. I refer all my patients with nutritional concerns to her, and no one has ever been disappointed.
I worked with Melanie Sherman for over 6 years and her guidance, knowledge and understanding are immeasurable. Melanie has an amazing way of showing you the right way of dealing with food by providing insight and helping you find the answers. Melanie will hold you accountable and make sure you are always on the path of growth. Yes there might be slips and falls however she always helps you get up to face another day with food issues. As a food addict I have come to realize that my food problems may never go away but with Melanie’s help I now have numerous tools and resources to assist me as I attempt to manage my life with food.
